CU-Writer for Windows Frequently Asked Questions
------------------------------------------------
22 June 1995

Q: Do I need a Windows Thai Edition to run CWW ?
A: We have tested CWW running fine on both English and Thai versions of
Windows and Windows for Workgroup, and also on Windows NT 3.5.
(We haven't tested on OS/2 Warp yet, since we don't have one).

Q: CWW comes with a font named CUSYMBOL.TTF. When I select the font, all
characters appear in squares, why ?
A: The CUSYMBOL is used for displaying the greek characters (alpha, beta
gamma,...). It does not include any fonts for thai/english characters.

Q: If CUSYMBOL.TTF does not have thai font, how can I obtain one ?
A: CWW does not come with any thai font. It's a pain for us to design a
good looking one. If you have Thai Edition of Windows, you already
got Thai fonts. If you used English version, you need to have at least
one TrueType Thai fonts installed. There is two such fonts available in
june.cs.washington.edu in the file /pub/thaisys/BBS/tttffont.zip as
discussed in soc.culture.thai. The first beta version doesn't work with
the font. The second beta versiBoth work fine in CWW.

Q: Does CWW support all the Thai fonts available in the market ?
A: Not quite sure, currently there are over a hundred fonts supported.
You can see the list of Thai fonts supported by CWW in CWW.INI file
   after installation.

Q: The font I selected and spacing does not look the same as I use in
   the other S/W, why ?
A: Since we want this CWW version to be almost the same as CU-Writer, so
the width of each character has to be the same. TrueType fonts are mostly
proportional width fonts, so we adjust aspect ratio for some characters
and insert some micro-spacing for others. This makes the fonts appearing
   fixed-width and looks slightly different.

Q: Can I change all the menu items and messages to English ?
A: Yes, ALT+F2. Press ALT+F2 will change them back to Thai
(the same command as in CU-Writer ver 1.6.)

Q: When I use SuperVGA display driver (e.g. 800x600 or 256 colors or better)
in Windows Thai Edition, some of the Thai characters don't display. Why ?
A: It seems that there are problems for the Thai Edition when using
those drivers. The problems occur not only in CWW, they do on MS-Word
and some other S/Ws as well.
If you use Windows Thai Edition, don't use SuperVGA that come with Windows
(version 3.11 has the drivers). Try using the drivers coming with the
display card (from our tests this works fine). Or use the old original
   VGA 16 Color driver.
By the way, in English version, no problems has been found for any
   of the drivers tested.

Q: Can CWW be installed in the network ?
A: Currently, CWW is not network-aware. So you have to install for
   each individual in the network.

Q: I can't print to the network printer under Windows for Workgroup
   + Novell 3.12, why ?
A: The beta version doesn't accept network printer. The final release
   version recognize network printer.

Q: What will the next version of CWW look like ?
A: The next version of CWW (CWW78) will support full Windows GUI, including
proportional fonts, multiple fonts, paragraph styles, tool bars, better
word separation alg., OLE, and a lot more... (The alpha version should be
out in the next few months.)

Q: Why 77 ?
A: For the 77th aniversary of Chulalongkorn Univ.
