This file accompanies the instructor and student packages for the book
"Computer Security: The Foundations". A copy of it travels inside each package
archive so the terms stay with the files.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. WHAT THESE MATERIALS ARE
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Student package - class-activity handouts, lab starter files, a study
                       guide, and reference cards.
Instructor package - lecture decks (PDF and LaTeX source), course maps and a
sample syllabus, and the lab setup guide.

The book itself is covered by the copyright page printed inside it, not by this
file. The permitted free use of the PDF edition stated there continues to
apply.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. GRANT — CLASSROOM USE
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You may, for NON-COMMERCIAL classroom instruction:

  - reproduce and distribute these materials to your students;
  - present the slides and adapt them — edit the LaTeX source, cut or reorder
    slides, rebrand the theme, translate — to fit your course;
  - adapt the handouts, study guide, reference cards, course maps, syllabus and
lab setup guide in the same way.

on the following conditions:

  (a) Attribution. Retain a visible credit to the author and the book title —
"Krerk Piromsopa, Computer Security: The Foundations" — and a pointer to
      the official distribution page,
      https://www.cp.eng.chula.ac.th/~krerk/books/ComputerSecurity/ .
The decks and documents carry this credit already; keep it.

  (b) Non-commercial. You may recover the direct cost of reproduction (e.g.
printing). You may not sell these materials, bundle them into a paid
product or course sold for profit, or charge a fee beyond that direct
      cost.

  (c) No misrepresentation. Do not present an adapted version in a way that
implies the author endorses your changes, and do not remove this licence
      from a redistributed package.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3. RESERVED — NOT COVERED BY THE GRANT ABOVE
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The following remain fully reserved and are NOT licensed for redistribution:

  - Exercise solutions, marking rubrics, and any test bank. These are supplied
only to verified instructors, under separate terms, and must not be
published, posted to a public or student-accessible location, or shared
    with students.

  - Commercial use of any kind, commercial reproduction, and the preparation of
    derivative works for sale.

  - Third-party material. Some figures and one legacy lecture deck
("Web Security — Guest Speaker") are the work of others and are excluded
from these packages entirely; they are not yours to redistribute under this
    licence.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4. AUTHORISED-USE AND SAFETY NOTE
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

These materials teach working attack techniques for defensive education. When
you run the activities, do so only against systems you own or are authorised in
writing to test. Unauthorised access, scanning or interception is a criminal
offence under Thailand's Computer Crime Act and its equivalents elsewhere,
regardless of intent or outcome. The author and publisher accept no liability
for misuse.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5. NO WARRANTY
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

These materials are provided "as is", without warranty of any kind. Verify the
lab setup — especially the buffer-overflow toolchain — on your own equipment
before relying on it in class.
