Aim: In this year seminar,
I will put the first priority to
"presentation". That is, each student will contribute to the
session by presenting an interesting work.
Each session will last one hour, each presentation must be within 30-40
min. with 20 min. for discussion. There will be 12
presentations by the students in this semester, the rest is due in the
next semester. The schedule of the session will be announced at the
beginning of the course. I expect the presenter to deliver a good
presentation in two aspects:
1) the quality of the content.
2) the quality of the presentation.
I will invite other lecturers to participate in the seminar from times
to times. I expect the discussion to be constructive and enjoyable.
Assessment: This course is
an S/U course. The passing grade
is determined by
1) attendance, at least you have to attend 8 out of 12 sesssions.
2) the quality of the presentation.
I am looking forward to interesting and lively seminars!

Title: Network Coding and the Hidden Terminals Problem
Abstract:
Network coding is method for improving network throughput by reducing a
number of packet transmission. An access point, instead of sending
several packets in multiple time-slots, uses network coding to combine
those packets into one encoded packet and broadcasts in one time-slot.
This encoding technique has been applied to various problems. In this
seminar, I will overview several network coding techniques and present
"ZigZag Decoding" that is a promising coding technique to combat the
well-known "hidden terminals" problem in wireless networks.
