This semester we have a mixed of participants : 2 2nd year PhD and 5 new comers. To start out a new PhD I would like to stress the activity to be PARTICIPATION (rather than depth of knowledge), i.e. I expect all students to actively participate in discussing the subjects.
The way we are going to do it is to divide the time into several activities. The first activity is the 'tutorial' of specialise subject. I hope this will warm up students to be able to discuss the subject outside their field of specialiation (and broaden their view of research). The schedule is as follows :
Week 1 Web
Mining
Sukree
Machine Learning
Nuanwan
Week 2 Cluster computing
Shisanu
Object Orientation
Sunee
Week 3 Genetic
Programming Chaiwat
Genetic Algorithm Yongthong
Week 4 Evolvable hardware
Chatchawit
Robotic Research
Prabhas
The second activity is decided to be 'getting to know the research labs of the department'. The long term goal is to strengthen the tie between 7 research laboratories and hopefully foster the 'inter-lab' research.
Week 5 Machine Intelligence and
Data mining lab (MIND) Sukree
Intelligent System lab (ISL)
Yongthong
Week 6 Software Engineering lab
(SE)
Sunee
Computer Graphics and Image Processing lab
Shisanu
Week 7 Digital System Engineering
lab (DIESEL)
Chatchawit
Information System Engineering lab (ISEL)
